Elective surgery?

Whenever a politician says that something is unlikely to affect ballot box outcomes then you can be sure that they fear the reverse to be true. Hence the appearance of Carwyn Jones on the the Sunday politics show to give his personal perspective on healthcare changes in Wales.

Although his stint was as much intended to steady the buffs as restate the imperatives, the First Minister is known to be intensely frustrated over what he sees as chronic mishandling of service reorganisation plans. He may have dismissed the possibility of electoral backlash over the cutbacks but the interviewer missed a trick by not asking about the possibility of someone paying a more specific political price.

Rumour has it that Carwyn has decided to introduce a couple of key cabinet changes in areas where he thinks the government is under-performing. It is said that among those listed for elective surgery in the next few months (possibly the end of March) is health minister Lesley Griffiths.

Update: another fine mess

  1. I would not be surprised to see Edwina Hart and Jane Hutt moved around. Of course, both of these have already done health so I suppose we can expect Mark Drakeford to get the job of healing the health service.

Methinks the minister for economic development is headed in the same direction as her portfolio, i.e. down and out.

  3. Re: Update.
