Winging it

Strange how worried business leaders with short-term memories should have problems with the idea of Cardiff Airport going back into public ownership.

The airport at Rhoose was previously owned by the former Glamorgan County Council and then by a consortium of local authorities. In 1995 the Major government forced its privatisation as a consequence of local government reorganisation. Investment in facilities and infrastructure peaked during the period before the sell-off. Its decline in standards and appearance whilst in private ownership has been evident for some time.

Cardiff Airport is no longer the modern & attractive gateway that Wales requires if it is to build on its ambitions to attract economic investment and expand as a tourism destination.

Having previously demanded that the Welsh government places greater emphasis upon supporting business, the 'concerns' from the CBI now smack more of ideology than any commercial aspect.
