Doing what it says on the tin

Accounts in the Beeb and Western Mail both portray CJ as giving an above-average debut performance at First Ministers question time. There is however a slight hint of disappointment over his proficiency in the role that is tinged with an implied hankering after the kind of erratic narrative that Rodders often used by way of deflection on such occasions and which endeared him to political sketch writers otherwise plagued by a surfeit of colourless characters in the chamber.

We will try not to succumb to the temptation of remarking that they should have been more careful what they lobbied wished for.

Re Doing what is says on the tin: As you imply, Carwyn will have little problem in managing to live down to the media’s expectations. I feel sure that he will make as substantial contribution to a further blurring of demarcation as the likes of Jo Kiernan get their designer footwear under influential desks.

Just to point out that Ms Kiernan was put in post as a special [media] adviser by Rhodri some time ago. She is probably the only name among the reshuffled entourage that Martin Shipton recognises. However, her elevation to “coalition manager covering the health portfolio” does undoubtedly cast an very interesting side-light on Carwyn-Edwina relations.

Forgive the cynicism, but I get the feeling that Gareth Hughes' wobbly over the patronage system of appointing special advisors is down to the fact that he was considered suitable (yet again).
