Even more out of pocket

A planning inspector has managed to cost Swansea Council an estimated £11 million windfall.

Controversial plans for an ASDA superstore in Gorseinon had previously been turned down by city planners following a consultants report on the potential harm to existing smaller retail outlets and independent traders.

The company decided to appeal against the decision - much to the relief of the Lib Dem-led administration who have been desperately trying to flog off the land to pay for a looming budget deficit (despite the fact that the scheme was out of synch with their own policies).

The appeal has failed, to the delight of local campaigners and in any other city, press and opposition parties would be demanding an enquiry into what this fiasco has cost the local taxayers.

Don't hold your breath.
