New Order?

Whatever the truth – or wishful thinking – behind this Western Mail article, it must be admitted that even we have heard rumours that a certain Peter Black has been angling for the post of Assembly presiding officer.

A notable exponent of self-expression, with a particular emphasis on ‘self’, councillor Black has been noticeably reticent to stick his oar into the murky waters that surround Dafydd Ellis-Thomas, the present incumbent – which has naturally only added to speculation.

There remains, of course, the slight matter of provenance. But appointing a non Welsh-speaking scouser to chair a national assembly should be no problem to an organisation that already re-directs out of hours calls to Scotland.
